Review for the week!

So, I know that I usually do a book review. . .but today I thought I'd change things up a bit!
I'm going to do a review on (drum roll) When Calls the Heart--a hallmark channel original!

"When Calls the Heart" tells the captivating story of Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), a young teacher accustomed to her high-society life, who receives her first classroom assignment in Coal Valley, a small coal-mining where life is simple, but often fraught with challenges. Lori Laughlin plays Abigail Stanton , a wife and mother, who's husband, the foreman of the mine, along with dozens of other miners, has been killed in a explosion. The newly widowed women find their faith is tested when they must go work in the mines to keep a roof other their heads. Elizabeth charms most everyone in Coal Valley, except Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing), who believes Thatcher's father has domed his lawman's career by insisting he be assigned in town to protect the shipping magnate's daughter. Living in a 19th century coal town, Elizabeth will have to learn the ways of the frontier if she wishes to thrive in the rural west on her own.

I LOVE Janette Oke's books!! (I hope I'm not alone here :)
When I heard hallmark was producing a season from 'The Canadian West" series of books (My favorite series by her!) I was REALLY excited!
I just finished watching them yesterday, and I can't wait until season 2 comes out next May!  They are some of the best movies (they have been released on DVD) that I have ever watched and they are also great to watch as a family. Well, as long as you have brothers who don't mind watching the occasional romance with you :)
Have any of you seen these episodes? If so, what did you think???
I'd love to hear in the comments!

  1. No, I have never seen or read this series. Thanks for the review. :)

  2. I have watched all the Love Come Softly movies. I think, at least, I've seen them all. My sister used to be obsessed with those. :) So I saw a lot of them. I think I saw this one, too, but I get them all mixed up and can never remember all the names. I do remember one show where this lady gets kidnapped by cowboys because a boy they were taking care of has a brother who's an outlaw? I think that's what happened. It's been years. Thanks for the review! Do you know when the Canadian Mounties series is coming out? I am familiar with those books, though I didn't read them. My sister did and she loves those!

  4. I want to read the series but have not yet...soon! Maybe after I can watch the movies!
Is it appropriate for an almost 14 year old? Both the books and movies?

    1. I was allowed to read them when I turned 14 and I was allowed to watch the Love comes softly movies (another series written by her) when I was as young as 10. They are christian romances, so it really just depends on what age your parents decide :-)
